Toward Castle
Toward Castle (not to be confused with the later Castle Toward) lies west of Toward Point, about seven miles south of Dunoon, Argyll, in the Firth of Clyde.
The original 15th century remains comprise a keep that is largely buried, with a courtyard to the northeast, however there are further remains more deeply buried.
While in the possession of the Lamonts, the castle was besieged by the Campbells in 1646, and the occupants forced to surrender. Many Lamonts were reported to have been hanged afterwards, and the castle is said never to have been used since that event.
