A Royal Navy Shore Establishment is commissioned as one of His/Her Majesty's Ships, with officers and ratings being assigned duty at the facility.
For example, HMNB Clyde at Faslane is officially designated as HMS Neptune. HMS Caledonia is located at the Rosyth Naval Dockyard, and is a subordinate command of HMS Neptune, and provides support to naval personnel standing by ships and submarines at Rosyth for refit.
