ROC Post Gourock
The Gourock ROC Post lies on a low mound in an area of rough parkland on the southern part of Tower Hill to the west of Gourock High School, accessed from Jacobs Drive. There is no evidence of the compound fencing.
The post was first visited during 2002, when the hatch was found to have been welded shut following repeated break-ins to the post. Having been privately owned for a period, sustained and continuing vandalism of the post resulting in the owners handing it back to the council.
A second visit made during 2009 found that the original welded access hatch had been replaced by a new item which, at the time of the visit, was only secured by a single small padlock fitted to one of the two original hasp and staple fittings. The new cover was not an original standard hatch replacement, and had no access hole for the usual T-key which would normally be required to release the gravity latch which normally secures the hatch when it is lowered. The new cover was also not a later Torlift variant, a more secure type fitted to only a few Scottish posts as original equipment. Without further examination, it was not possible to determine if the single padlock was the only item securing the cover, or if there was any further, unseen, mechanism beneath.
