Kilbrannan Sound Dummy Minefield
The existence of a dummy minefield has been identified in the area of Kilbrannan Sound, between the Isle of Arran and the Kintyre peninsula, described as having a radius of 555 metres about the location given.
The original record establishing the existence of the dummy minefield is dated August 3, 1951, and is not clear as to whether the minefield is World War II legacy, or was installed around the given date, perhaps as a training area. The dummy minefield was reported, by the Office of the Commodore of the Clyde, to have been removed by 1992.
