Gartcosh Decoy
Records indicate that a World War II Starfish decoy site was located at Gartcosh, east of Glasgow, towards Coatbridge. Part of the Clyde AA Defences. Site number SF13h. The decoy may also have been known as Townhead.
The decoy site was visible in aerial photographs taken by the RAF in 1947, but was no longer evident in similar photographs taken during a 1988 survey. The site area lies between the A752 and Lochend Loch to the east, with the later M73 to its west, and is now occupied by a small wood. Construction of the M73 began in 1969, and the numbering of the A752 indicates that it is a post 1922 road, although its date of construction is unknown
