Balinakill House
Balinakill House lies on the west of the Kintyre peninsula, to the north east of Clachan, on the A82.
The house was built for Sir William Mackinnon (March 13, 1823 - June 22, 1893), 1st Baronet of Loup and Balinakill, and founder of Keil Technical School, which opened in 1915.
The school was destroyed by fire in 1924, but was able to re-opened when the school took a lease on Helenslee House, Dumbarton, originally home of the Denny shipbuilding family, and set within some 50 acres of grounds. However, due to the threat of enemy action there during World War II, staff and pupils were transferred to Balinakill House, their founder's former home, for the duration of the war.
The house was later converted into the Balinakill Hotel.
