AA Battery Moorpark
A World War II anti-aircraft battery was sited near Hillington, to the east of Glasgow. Site number S13. Part of the Clyde AA Defences, the site was known as Moorpark or Hillington Estate. The site lay north of the Rolls Royce factory.
The battery was equipped with four emplacements, and an accommodation camp nearby.
Examination of aerial photographs taken in 1941 indicate this battery was initially comprised of mobile anti-aircraft guns within earth banking and next to tented accommodation. Further photographs taken in 1942 showed the area to the north of the factory to contain a conventional brick/concrete battery, and accommodation camp with huts.
The site now lies under the M8 motorway, and the surrounding area has been developed with extensions to the original Hillington industrial area, and housing.
