Camp 165 has been mentioned relatively often in public, thanks to the release of various publications in the past.

However, something odd happened on Tuesday, June 29, when we received hundreds of additional page views.

There doesn't seem to have been any reason for this, and I wondered if anyone else had noticed if there had been some publicity or story released about the camp at the start of the week.

Good to see a recent visit has been made to this site. I've been trying to engineer an excuse to get over since last September!
Two things I particularly want to see though; if you look to the left of the actual decoy site , that big 'pond' looks suspiciously like the crater left by an aerial mine. There's another further south just on the edge of the double wavy lines formed by trees further down the hill.
Did anyone get a look at these during the site visit?

I spoke to Clydeports's electricians at Toward a week or two ago.

It seems that the Toward Lighthouse was gas powered, not paraffin powered for much of its life. This explains why the modern (plastic) gas main runs right down the lane to Foghorn Cottage beside the lighthouse. The gas supply would originally have come from the Innellan Gas Works in Cluniter Lane. The site was put up for sale a couple of years ago with the stipulation that it could only be used for gas purposes. As far as I know there were no takers.

The paraffin story comes from a store in one of the buildings which has always been known as the Paraffin Store. Never make assumptions!

Just reading the page on the ROF factory, the bit about the safety record is pretty far from the truth. Over the years there have been about 15 people killed there, including one explosion in June 1960 which killed 6 workers. The last death was in the 90's. It amazing how it has all been hushed up over the years.

RAF Wigtown

I am interested in finding out about an old Airbase I live close to, but cannot seem to find very much information about. It is RAF Wigtown in South West Scotland, and I was hoping that someone might be able to either tell me where I could find out more information, be it photos etc. or if someone even has some of their own I could see (photocopies etc.). I am particularly interested in photos from the 40s when it was actually in operation. The airfield opened in 1941 as a training school, and hosted No 1 Air Observers School from September 13, 1941, to February 1, 1942. Apparently there were Lancaster Bombers there on August 27th 1944, who were running out of fuel with only 45mins left and Wigtown was the only place they could land. If anyone has more info about this event it would be great to hear the stories!
