Some requests for any readers with local knowledge of these places.

1.  Anyone around Kilwinning who can checkout the RN DF station there?  The site has gone completely but there is a building by the roadside, be interesting to see if any local farmers etc know anything about it.  I should be able to get down next month and take some pictures.

2.  What did the RN have a Ugadale near Campbeltown in WWII?

3.  What was the "Old Quarry", Campbeltown in WWII (RN again)

4.  I have been told there was a radio station at Mayish behind Brodick.  There is a tower marked on maps in perhaps 1960s or later though nothing now.  Looking at the 1946 aerial images there are some small buildings in a similar area and a circular shape can be seen on Google Earth.  It is quite likely just a couple of water troughs or sheds and the circle could be natural (getting a bit paranoid looking for circles!).  Even if the tower was utilities or emergency services, it could still be on an earlier site.

Jmb, I spent a lot of time in Campbeltown during the war, but I'm sorry to say I can't answer your questions. I didn't know where the village of Ugadale was, The only "Ugadale" of which I was aware was the Ugadale Arms Hotel, and come to think of it I'm just assuming I was aware of it during the war. Around Machrihanish during the war of course, was all Fleet Air Arm personnel and training flights.

I knew the "Old Quarry", too, of course, but not what the RN had to do with it. After the war the old lifeboat building there was used by the local RN Cadets.

Thanks, Ugadale seems to be the name of a house in Machrihanish so probably just one of many buildings they used.  I thought it was the area North of Campbeltown.

If the area by the current lifeboat building was known as Old Quarry then they probably had something there previously.

Just sometimes an innocuous entry in the telephone directory can give useful clues to things.
