I was certainly told during the height of the cold war that the KGB/Spetznaz created hides and staches of equipment in deep holes and well hidden in target countries. The idea being that "sleepers" or specdial troops in times leading up to a crisis would unearth what they needed and cause havock for a short while at key installations.

I do know that after the cold war many of these staches were unearthed in Germany and Central Europe and I do know that our special forces regularly made drop offs into Eastern Germany from lorries going to Berlin. I was fortunate to know a guy who did this.

I would be very surprised if this did not happen in Scotland after all the Russian military maps of our country are more detailed than the OS maps which they copied! Does anybody know if anything like this was found in the Uk/ Scotland?

A friend told me years ago about a news item that he had seen on the BBC Midlands news years before that.  A farmer had found a radio set in his field that had Cyrillic labels.  It was reported to the authorities who took it away and know more was vever heard of it.  I am sure he said the report did have a picture of it.

He worked at a MOD research establishment and had connections with the intelligence community so I tend to believe what he told me.  

It fitted well with what was said to happen with Soviet sleepers etc having radio sets hidden away.
