The RN also laid one in Loch Ness The USN took over responsibility for laying a large minefield across the North Sea. They brought the mines across the Atlantic to Kyle of Lochalsh and Corpach, they were then shipped across to the East coast by rail or canal. There were USN operations in Inverness, Alness as well as bases in Kyle and Corpach. I only discovered their location in Corpach last year, no one locally knew anything about it. They were tests in mine-laying or mine-sweeping techniques in the lochs.
