This info has come from recent discusiions with rcahms after their examination of pictures from November 1945 and 1966.

A large camp of about 34 huts in an enclosure centred on NS22509698
Further huts West of the road at NS22508698 with a couple of huts between both groups.
A small concrete tower at NS22738692, east of the road. Only the foundations visible by 1966.

The records show this site as having no radar but the 1945 pic clearly shows  a concrete ramp and GL mat at NS22528714 to the NW of the now demolished emplacements.
Records further show that the battery was supplied with four 3inch guns in June 1942 and none from Nov 1943 to 1945 although he casts doubt on the veracity of this record.

The above hut NGRs do not seem to me to tie in with the discovered hutbases as can be seen on current aerial shots.

I've slipped the new locations on to the map, but the 34 huts seem to have a typo somewhere, and land up north, to the east of Loch Goil.

The new point also contains the original RCAHMS centre of the battery - you need to click the link on the list of points above the map to open the marker and see which one (the one given as "Further huts west of the road...". Perhaps this only suggest the original battery position is not accurate or certain.

The accuracy of the records always seems to be suspect now - I'm beginning to take it as granted, and just keep adding phrases like "Records indicate..." lest anyone come back and moan about the info being right, wrong, or otherwise.

I'm never sure about GL radar reports now, since it's clear that despite the mat needed by the early, non-centimetric types, the gear was mobile and mounted in trucks, so saying it was "installed" is probably a bit pointless. The map and ramp had to installed, or the radar would have been less effective if wheeled in, so its existence is probably an indication that radar may or may not ever have been used. However, absence of the mat and ramp is almost a sure sign that radar was never used at the site, unless it was later and centimetric.

If you can check the figs and let me know if there are any corrections I'll slot them in.

If not, it might still be valid to assume a one-digit correction for the 34 huts which will place them where intended.

That was the same result I got.  That is the NGr he sent me.  What also puzzles me is that all his huts seem to be in the woods and to have no relationship to the found hut bases in the field.  I wondered if they were off the old grid?

Won't be the old grid with that number of digits - or at least is very unlikely. The usual sign is six digits after the letters. Any more usually means new digital mapping resources have been used to pick the number off the map.

This post shows how far off an old vs new reference would be if the wrong one was used.

I hadn't bothered looking at the actual numbers when I saw the 34 huts so far north, but it's clearly a mis-quote in some way as the number is almost the same as that given for the "further huts west of the road". The difference is in the 8 and 9 digit in the northing sequence...

NS22509698 - 34 huts
NS22508698 - further group

Not much we can do about that, other be sorry for the troops in the 34 huts, with a 1 kilometre hike and swim if they are called to man the guns!
