I didn't fancy trying to get down there and back up in what might have been slippery conditions. I have it as a must do at a later date.
Perhaps Admin might consider extracting this as a new thread?
It occurs to me that there has to be a good reason for the site apparently on the edge of a cliff. It could be a torpedo bombing range, I could imagine the planes coming in from the sea aiming for the cliff below the lookout and dropping their dummy torpedoes the tracks of which could then be tracked for accuray from the lookout.
If you compare the observation tower with those we have been able to include pictures of from the likes of the Kintyre penisula (Balure and Skipness come to mind), then although the tower is not exactly the same, it has to be said it still reminiscent of those towers, which were attributed to the English builder Sunley, so this might be a local version of the same, whipped up by a Scottish builder handed the same, or similar, spec.
On that basis, and the other comments, it's seems that it would be worthwhile doing some checking for a bombing or torpedo range.
As a more obscure suggestion, it just might have been placed there specifically to watch for enemy submarine activity - periscopes or conning towers - in the area, since it would have been one way to approach the Mulberry related activities taking place a little way to the south, and which was subject to the utmost secrecy as part of the D-Day preparations.
I have deleted and reloaded at a smaller resolution the HMS Armadillo photoalbum to gain extra storage space. Hopefully the link still works.
I also found another hut today, languishing in a field and have appended some pics of that. I don't think it is in its original position as most of the corrugated iron sheets have numbers on the inside.
There shouldn't be any issues arising from changing images inside a Picasa album, as it's the album name that provides the link to the contents. So long as the album name is not changed, then you can do what you like with contents
The update's an interesting find too - always worth a look around
All pics and maps have a little box on LHS upper corner with a red X, and a a large emty box, can not access, most frustrating, however in main forum, they are in full view stange, using XP
It means your browser access is blocked, or that it cannot access the url.
Whether that is by reason of intent, or location, is another matter though.
All SeSco maps are provided by Google Maps, so if that is blocked, then there's little can be done.
If you are allowed access to any of the other mapping services, then the links under the Aerial Views heading leads to all of the named services, and is always centred on the page subject.
That said, unfortunately old-maps had a recent redesign, and the links are broken, until or unless we can determine the new syntax.
All the images in the Wiki are hosted on Photobucket, and I would assume (given the free content of pics hosted in Photobucket) that is blocked by the country you are working in.
Forum contents are hosted in SeSco web space, which is private, and not connected to anything likely to be blocked, unless our host should offend and be blocked en masse.
Sorry, usually I would now suggest some browser settings, but as you say you can see pics elsewhere on the site, these settings can be expected to be fine, and the problem will not lie with you
My galleries are in Picassa which unfortunately is big G company. Wanlock, if you can find another photo storage site to which you can gain reliable access I could put any particular pics you interested in up.
