From the Blog, we've learned of an article in a special issue of the journal of pacific maritime history which refers to the yacht Medea being used as mother ship by the Norwegians in Peterhead, and also features the reminisces of Karl Solevaagseide, who served at Peterhead.

No link was given, but I've tracked the following down, and the index does include an article on the Spies of Peterhead, so I think it must be the right one:

Mains'l Haul ยป Maritime Museum of San Diego

I doubt if any of us (regular) are likely to see this, but if anyone does and can offer a bit of a relevant quote for review, it will always be welcome.

I just had a look in Commando Country.

Shetland was the main base for the Independent Naval Company which was used by the SOE's Linge Company.  SIS was concerned that there could be a security risk if they used the same base so set up a seperate base at Peterhead.

SOE initially used Flemington House near Lerwick then move to Lunna Voe in 1941 with a purpose built slipway and accommodation at Scalloway in 1942.  They also set up a reserve base in Burghead in 1942/3 though this was closed down after a sailing accident.
