Firstly apologies if I've posted this in the wrong place, if I have could a kindly mod move it to the correct place thanks.

for christmas I got some dvds  about the heyday of Scottish engineering and steel making  and after spending a very enjoyable afternoon yesterday watching them, I thought the subjects would be of interest to some folk on here.

the first one

"A romance of engineering" consists of  4 films and runs for just over 97 minutes

Men of iron   about the Andrew Strang foundry in Hurlford

A romance of engineering  is all about the Parkhead Forge of William Beardmore

James Watt     the life and work of the famous inventor

Story of a steel rope    showing how Martin Black and co made wire ropes

and the second one, "The Big mill" four films mainly concerned with the building of Ravenscraig and runs for around 100 minutes

Make way for steel    the building of the Ravenscraig steel works and the mill at Gartcosh

Lanarkshire Steelworks    follows the process of steel making at Colvilles

The BIg Mill        is about  the rolling processes at ravenscraig and Gartcosh

Fullwood Foundrys Mossend    is about the way they made cast iron moulds for the steel works

That was a nice little collection, lucky you

I remember some of those title, but haven't come across for some time, and it was nice to be reminded of them, and to learn that they can be purchased.

I might also be able to track down clips at various online resources, for example, The Big Mill features in a clip from Scotland on Film, one of the BBC's offerings:

BBC - Scotland on Film - Film and Radio Clips

Although the site only offer clips, some are still quite interesting, and worth the effort of having a look at.

They're even more valuable as references now, if we take the Big Mill as an example, since Ravenscraig is now gone, and turning into things like houses and parks

Thanks, they do have quite an interesting collection of films in their collections, and I do recognise quite a few of titles too.

The poor old wallet could take a pasting there, and they're not the cheapest (I may be looking at clips for some time ).
