I'd largely given up looking at the once swish webcam provided by Dundee city. It was one of the best you could take control of, and was often subject to a long queue and wait if you wanted your 90 seconds. However, it became something of a joke a few years ago, when a JAVA upgrade broke it, and trashed the controls - instead of revising the code, Dundee city advised users to uninstall the current version of JAVA, and load up an old obsolete version if they wanted to use the cam - as if! Anyway, the laughing is over as they seem to have rewritten it and it was working fine when I made a visit today, and it was deserted too: Dundee City Council Webcam pageThe camera is actually an externally mounted security camera of quite high specification - this means it is generally under the control of central CCTV staff, and this is relevant because the have access to a greater range of control - in particular the zoom function - than the public. If you simply leave it alone, you will be able to see what they see, as they check out the street and the people there, and zoom in much closer to them than you can with the screen controls you get 90 seconds of access to. |
