I mentioned the visit of the Queen Mary 2 in the Joint Warrior thread earlier, and it's too late to drop as a hint in the Events Thread.

It's not on a par with a QE2 visit, but still notable, and I'm really just adding the specific mention because I posted a Blog entry earlier, but had to use a stock shot of the ship from another cruise.

If you happened to look earlier, then it's worth another look, as the post is now illustrated by a rather fine shot of the ship, complete with standard Scottish weather and more notable, the passing of the PS Waverley on her way along the Clyde on her last trip of the season.

Was fortunate enough to see the Waverley staeming downstream past the "Port" and also a view of the QM2 from the Tesco car park through the mist and rain. More interesting for me was the vessel moored out from Gourock looking like a car carrier or at least lit up like one...any...takers.

Tistedal was the only vessel at Bravo Anchorage last night waiting to get into GOT.

Frigata Defensora (F-41) of the Brazilian Navy went out earlier.

Look HERE for some images of the QM 2.

Admittedly a bit late in commenting here but I was totally under-awed upon seeing this on the news.
A foreign owned ship (marketed as being British via the tradename Cunard) built in a foreign country, overwhelmingly crewed from the streets of Manilla pushes none of my buttons at all.

I've got to admit that I don't like the look of the modern cruiseships.  Give me the old Queen Elizabeth, Queen Mary or something like that.  The newer ships just look like giant floating tenements.

Tears in my eyes as I think back to watching 734 being launched into the Clyde. School assembly hall, 14 year old, remember us all guessing what she'd be called (the pre-launch name was ultra secret), for some reason which seemed sensible at the time 'Churchill' was a favourite.

I read one book by a RN officer who was in attendance on a ship being built on Clydeside during WWII.  There were just as many dodgy shortcuts being done as anywhere else, it certainly was not the quality job that is usually claimed for the Clyde.

QM2 might not have the lines of the QE2 but it is a lot better looking than most cruise ships and certainly a lot better than this one which is just a floating block of flats.

Largest cruise liner leaves port

Memory serves up the scandal of the QE2 trials and the Clydebank houses that were [allegedly] fitted out like palaces ... I'm sure your sink never came off a boat Doug.

Here's a link to another pic of QM2 in rather better weather passing my beach chalet.
