The Ailsa Craig Ltd page has been added, and also ties in with the Hillman Imp page. To find out why though, you'll have to visit the pages. This introduction is by way of an appeal. While most of the history of Ailsa Craig Ltd refers to its existence in London, its foundation and roots lie in Scotland, with its founder, Alistair "Arthur" Edward Stuart Craig, having been born and raised in Glasgow, and having begun his career as a bicycle manufacturer in Glasgow, before moving to London to pursue his engineering interests. The company name reflects his early slogan, which included the image of a cyclist standing atop Ailsa Craig, holding a Craig bicycle at arm's length, together with the words "As strong as the rock of Ailsa Craig". We have become involved with the Ailsa Craig Archive as a result of this connection, and would like to assist them in locating any information there may be regarding the early years of the business, together with Arthur Craig's beginnings in Glasgow. If you have any information relating to any aspects of Craig's early bicycle manufacturing business in Glasgow, or later work as part of Ailsa Craig Ltd, we would be most grateful to learn of it, and have it incorporated as part of the archive. |
