Thread needs a discussion link.

The top right picture headed Blackburn Aircraft Factory 1966 - I don't believe this is or was part of the factory as it is in the wrong place.  It is on the other side of the river Leven and quite a bit to the west of the factory.  It appears in the lower right of the aerial view from Thomas Nugent.

Nicely spotted.

I had one of those "hairs tingling on back of neck" feelings with that pic, but couldn't put my finger on the reason, but with your confirmation, the position of the building on the left peak of Dumbarton Rock becomes an obvious giveaway for the error.

Glad you took the time to spot the detail in this one, I wouldn't have twigged later.

As you probably looked, the period is too new for any of the old maps to show any detail, and whatever was there has been cleared in recent times.

Pity.

I've posted a change note, we'll see if there is a response.

Amazing, got a rapid and positive response, as it seems the photographer had been trying to work out where the pic had actually been taken, hence the slip.

Clearly not the Blackburn factory unfortunately, but this is the link to the correct item http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1087257

You may want to have a look at his own site, where you will find a number of pictures of old Scotland.

Unfortunately, and nice as it would have been if we'd been lucky, none of the old pics seem to have landed on any of our subjects, so no chance finds of past views.

Indeed, family pic from an early holiday

I've got a few like that. I know where they must have been taken, but just cannot place the detail.

I have just updated the Blackburn Aircraft Factory photoalbum.   I managed to get to the one remaining building.  This involved walking in the side gate which was open.   The bottom wire mesh was badly damaged so even if someone locked the gate, I could still get out.

I have described it as a power distribution building but if that is incorrect I am sure one of our electrical experts will let me know.
